When building your custom home, picking out paint color is a no-brainer – but, there’s so much more! Choosing a custom backspash can set the tone of your entire kitchen.

When it comes to your custom home, everything is specially designed for you. From the footprint and floorplan, to the details like colors, materials, and fixtures. All those choices can feel overwhelming at times, but we’re here to help!

Whether you’ve just begun to dream about your new home, or you’re in the final stages of choosing your design, we hope these examples of custom kitchen backsplashes will help you get some ideas for your new kitchen!

This first photo shows a beautiful grayscale backsplash, which perfectly pulls out the gray cabinets, white walls, and stainless steel appliances.

The next example uses different angles to create a focal point above the stove. We love this creative use of a single color of tile to create a unique feel!

But there’s no rules about what kind of material you have to use for your custom backsplash, and we love this homeowner’s choice to use rustic stone for a stunning style!

Tile can be done in straight lines horizontally or vertically, but did you know you can also do angled tile? The use of these long white tiles to create an interesting zig-zag pattern is a great way to keep the color palette simple while still creating a point of interest with your backsplash.

And we can’t leave this next one out! We love using mixed materials between the countertop and backsplash to create interest with different textures! We think this combination looks clean, classic, and welcoming!

What Does Cherokee Offer?

Cherokee County is a great place to live, work, and play. It has one of the best school systems in the entire metro Atlanta area, plenty of local business for work and shopping, a great parks and recreation system, and several different cities to choose from. All of that, plus Cherokee’s proximity to Interstate 575 and easy access to Atlanta, makes this is one of the best places to build a custom home.

Each City is Unique

All across Cherokee you can find top-notch schools and beautiful neighborhoods, but each city has its own feel. Schools

The Bartow County School District is a great school system for your children to attend! With options for taking advanced placement classes for college credit, to a wonderful graduation rate, you can rest easy knowing your kids are getting a quality education. Cities of Bartow County

Bartow is home to several cities, including Cartersville, Adairsville, Emerson, Euharlee, Kingston, and White. Cartersville, the county seat, has the slogan “Be Charmed. Be Prosperous. Belong.” Located about 45 miles north of Atlanta in the rolling North Georgia hills, this vibrant community is home to several historic sites, museums, and points of interest, including the Booth Western Art Museum, Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site, and more.

Adairsville, like most cities in the county, is a small and charming southern city, with plenty of history! Choosing Color for your Custom Home

Beige, taupe, gray, white, off-white, cream, soft blue, olive green, red, lavender, the options are endless when deciding on colors for your new custom home… so what do you pick? Here are some things to consider when picking the color scheme for your new home interior and exterior.

Curb Appeal

The color palette you choose for the exterior of your house has a huge impact on the home’s curb appeal. Before choosing a color or colors to use on the exterior of your home, you should consider the climate in your location, colors of surrounding homes, the natural landscape, and your own taste in home aesthetics. You may choose to hire an exterior design specialist to help you choose the best options for your area and situation. Once you’ve found the color or colors you think you want to use, it’s a good idea to look up that exact color in Google image search or another web image search. Look at how other homes appear when painted with your colors, and make sure you know how that color or colors will look in full sun versus full shade, as colors can appear very different depending on the lighting conditions.

Consider the Space

The color of a room can set its tone. For small or dark rooms, going with deep, super saturated, or dark colors may make the space feel squeezed. If you want to make a room seem larger, go with lighter tones to brighten up the room. On the other hand, if a room feels to large or open, you may consider going with a deeper, warmer, or darker color to make the room feel more cozy.

Personality and Feel

Generally speaking, warm tones like mellow shades of yellow or brown give a warm, cozy feel, while cooler tones like gray and blue have more of a calming effect. Tones like green or orange can be energetic, and shades of red or black can make a big impact! When choosing your color, think about the mood you’d like when you walk into a room and consider that in your decision. For a library or bedroom you may want a cozy space, and for a bathroom or kitchen you might want to lighten things us with an energizing blue.

Color Coordinating Room to Room

Once you’ve thought about the mood you’d like for each room, it’s important to consider how these colors flow from room to room in your house. Can you see the attached bath from your bedroom? Does your open floor plan connect the kitchen, living room, and dining area? Then you’ll probably want to choose interior colors that flow well from room to room, or choose several-room sections of your home to be painted in coordinating colors.

Resale

It’s common to repaint your home prior to selling, but what colors should you select? Buyer preference can vary from year to year, depending on recent color trends, but a good rule of thumb is to choose somewhat neutral or soft colors. That way, potential buyers feel like the space is open, and they can envision themselves customizing the house.

Consider Temperature and Season

Cool and dry weather is the best climate for beginning a new home construction project. Cooler temperatures mean better working conditions for the people who are building your home, and dry weather means less rain delays, and less moisture during the build. A light rain every now and then won’t cause trouble, but extended heavy rain for several days on exposed lumber can cause some problems down the line, like mold and squeaky stairs. By beginning construction on a new home in the winter when temperatures are cool and dry, you can avoid potential weather delays and help prevent maintenance problems down the line.

When Do You Want to Move In?

Building a new custom home takes some time, so it’s a good idea to think about when you want to move in. Would you rather move in while the kids are out of school? Do you prefer moving in the summer or fall, as opposed to spring or winter? All of these are things to consider when you decide to start a custom house build. Starting construction in the winter means you’ll have nicer weather for moving in, and you’ll get to enjoy not only your new home, but also your new yard, as soon as it’s completed!

Snow or Rain

In Georgia, it can be difficult to predict what the weather will do tomorrow, next week, or next month, so there’s no way to avoid all potential weather setbacks on a job site.
Rain or snow in the winter, just like in the spring summer, or fall, can still cause a delay. But bottom line, if you’re planning to build a custom home, winter can be an excellent time to start your new home construction!

Best Fall Trees for GA Landscaping

Take advantage Fall in Georgia by planting some of the most beautiful autumn trees in your landscape! Improve your curb appeal, and create a gorgeous yard, full of color, that you can enjoy year after year!

Unique Autumn Trees

In the Fall, the one-of-a-kind Katsura trees give off a spicy sweet scent, and it’s leaves turn a beautiful yellow-orange color, like a tangerine. These trees have a straight trunk and heart-shaped leaves, and are native to Japan and China.

Hamamelis virginiana is another unique choice. In the Fall, this tree’s leaves turn yellow with rusty patches, and from mid- to late Fall, clusters of yellow ribbon-shaped flowers cover the branches.

Sassafras tree are another great choice if you’re looking for something different to plant in your yard for the Fall. It’s multi-shaped leaves turn a beautiful orange pumpkin color, and it gives off a licorice smell, attracting wildlife while fending off mosquitos!

Ginkgo trees are a must have if you’re looking for a show stopper! These trees resist insects and disease, and their unique fan-shaped leaves turn a luminous bright yellow in the fall.

Another must-have Fall tree is Maple, with leaves turning multiple shades of orange. These come in many different sizes and are easy to work into any landscape.

Smokebush is another option, with leaves that turn a crimson color, scattered with yellow flowers. While smokebush is technically a shrub, it can be pruned and shaped into a small tree.

For bright red leaves in the Fall, Sweetgum is a great fast-growing tree with star shaped leaves that tend to stay on the tre longer than other trees, so you can enjoy the Fall color even longer.

Another classic Fall tree choice in Georgia is the Redbud. It features multi-colored leaves in the Fall, and vibrant pink blooms in the Spring. This is a smaller tree with a light colored trunk.

Cherokee’s Cities

When you move to Cherokee County, you get the best of both worlds: small town life and vibrant city life. Each city has its own unique feel, from relaxing horse farms to exciting events and quality shops.

Canton is the county seat of Cherokee, with a laid back but thriving downton area, several community events, restaurants, and shops. Canton is home to several wonderful parks, and the amazing Cherokee County aquatic center.

Woodstock is Cherokee’s largest city, with a bustling downtown area, which plays host to a summer concert series, Friday night events, and plenty of other community events. Woodstock has its own multi-use (walk, run, bike) trail system, and tons of parks.

Ball Ground is a smaller city than Woodstock or Canton, but has a quaint downtown area with shops, restaurants, and events. Ball Ground and Waleska, two of the county’s northernmost cities, are great places to get away from the hustle and bustle of South Cherokee, relax, and take in the mountain views. Other cities in Cherokee include Holly Springs and a portion of Nelson. Holly Springs is situated next to Woodstock and Canton, and Nelson is farther north toward Jasper.
