Schools
With Pickens County School District, you can expect a quality education with a small town feel. For general information, visit the school district website. Or, learn more about the local high school, Pickens High School.
The Pickens County School District website also has information on student enrollment, transportation, and information about the local Board of Education members and meetings.
Looking for local higher or continuing education options? Reinhardt University in Waleska is a great choice, or check out Chattahoochee Technical College, with locations throughout North Georgia.
Cities of Pickens County
Pickens County cities are known for gorgeous mountain views, pristine nature, and farming areas. Jasper, known as The First Mountain City and the Marble Capital of Georgia, has a small town feel with some great local restaurants. If you enjoy golf, you’ll find several nearby courses!
When you’re ready for some shopping, it’s a short drive over to the city of Talking Rock, where you can find antique shops, art displays, and a historic school house museum. Talking Rock is the third-smallest town in Georgia, and has kept its small town charm! The nearby city of Nelson features a marble museum and the Great Northern Railroad, which operates several days a week.
Community Resources
The local newspaper is the Pickens County Progress, and you can visit a local library that’s part of the Sequoyah Regional Library System. Pickens also has some great parks and local trails!
Pickens has several emergency services available for residents, including Pickens County Fire Services, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Georgia Health District’s Pickens County Health Services. Nearby hospitals are Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, and Northside Hospital in Canton.
